I am very excited to be elected the first USCS Council Chairman! During my tenure, I plan to work on the following projects:
- An USCS international symposium, "China's Rise and Its Impact on the World: Democratization, Development and Culture," co-sponsored by ACPSS. The symposium will be hosted by the Center for Asian Democracy, the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, the United States, on March 20-22, 2009. In the future, USCS may work with different participating organizations to run international symposiums that have different disciplinary focuses, such as communication, history, political science and sociology.
- An USCS e-journal, "Global China Studies," edited by Professor Yawei Liu. The e-journal complements those print ones published by some participating organizations and it provides an outlet for those that don't publish journals.
- Two USCS panels at the Association for Asian Studies annual meeting to be held in Atlanta in April 3-6, 2008. The two panels, chaired by Professors Yawei Liu and Fei-Ling Wang respectively, have been accepted. This serves the participating organizations well, because most of them don't organize panels at AAS annual meetings.
- A possible USCS delegation to mainland China and/or Taiwan to have dialogues and scholarly exchanges with government officials and scholars. A USCS delegation not only has broader representation but also serves those participating organizations that don't organize dialogue tours to mainland China and Taiwan.
I look forward to working with those who want to participate in USCS activities.
